Bret Michaels was born on March 15, 1963, in Butler, Pennsylvania where he spent the majority of his childhood as well. His family consists of his parents, Marjorie and Wally Sychak, an automotive technician, and two elder sisters, Michelle and Nicole. A

t the age of six, Bret was diagnosed with type I diabetes which he was hospitalized for but that didn’t stop him from leading a normal life and building a spectacular career. 

Bret studied at the Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School in Pennsylvania. He was fond of playing the guitar throughout his teenage life. Eventually, he projected his passion by forming a band named “Paris” with Bobby Dall, Rikki Rockett, and David Besselman. That band gained popularity quite quickly and became the renowned metal/rock group “Poison”.

Bret’s career started during his teens when he formed a band with Rikki, the bass guitarist, and Bobby, the drummer. Before stepping out in the world as “Poison” in 1983, the fourth member of their group, David, was replaced by Matt Smith. The first silver lining for the band was their contract with Enigma Studios. In 1984, the band moved to Los Angeles and Smith was replaced by C.C. DeVille.
