Shaw was born on February 26, 1982, in Fort Lupton, Colorado to Jay and Bonnie Shaw. It has been reported that even his parents were taller than usual. His father was 6’1 and his mother was 5’11. Even his uncles were way too tall which describes how the tall gene ran in his family throughout.
During high school, he was an excellent basketball player. Further, he attended Otero Junior College in Colorado.
Later, he graduated from Black Hills State University where he got his admission through a full basketball scholarship. He studied Bachelors in Wellness Management.
