Schneider was born and brought up in the U.S. city of Memphis. He was born to parents Harry and Carol Schneider. He is Jewish. 

As a student at White Station High School, he went on to win himself the title of president of the class. He successfully made it to Harvard because of his exceptional performance at school, but he left shortly after.

He started his professional life as an actor performing in supportive or co-starring characters in films such as Better Off Dead, Making the Grade, Happy Together, and The Big Picture.

He started writing and producing for TV in the early 1990s. This would pave the way for a very successful career shift.

Career

After his first success as an actor, Schneider appeared to have made his way into the movie business and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.

Making the Grade, which originated in 1984, was the first acting endeavour of Dan Schneider. He played a minor part in the teen satire as a character called Blimp.

He also featured in Home Free alongside Matthew Perry, too (Chandler from Friends). It was a 1993 comedy series where he played the character of Walter Peters, a colleague and best buddy of Perry’s character.
