Born on May 22, 1981, in Aberdeen, Washington, Bryan Llyod Danielson is an only child. His father was a lumberjack while his mother was a therapist, and they were divorced when Bryan was still a young boy. As a student at Aberdeen Weatherwax High School, he was active in football but he later decided to try his luck in wrestling after graduation.
His decision to pursue wrestling happened by fluke when a friend introduced him to a wrestling magazine. Apart from that particular friend, everyone at his school considered him anti-social but that didn’t stop him from participating in the football team.
However, his unparalleled inspiration for wrestling was achieved by following renowned wrestlers like William Regal and Toshiaki Kawada.
He joined the Dean Malenko Wrestling School after graduation but it eventually closed. But by then he had already eased into the sport and decided to study Brazilian Jitsu so that he can set his style apart from his competitors.

Bryan’s career officially started in 1999 when he opted for training at Malenko’s wrestling school. His wrestling training stretched to the Texas Wrestling Academy where he got trained by Shawn Michaels. Later, he toured Japan with Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling organizations which helped him get acquainted with the precursor of WWE which is WWE.
However, that lasted only 18 months after which Daniel returned to Japan and competed in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling as the “American Dragon” for the next 3 years. In 2002, Daniel appeared for two matches in WWE and participated in three non-contractual games of WWE the following year.
