His full name is William Omar Landron Rivera, but he is popularly recognized as Don Omar, which is his stage name. One of his common nicknames is El Rey. Early Life

Born and raised in Santurce, which is a region in San Juan in Puerto Rico, Don Omar was the first child of the family. His father was William Landron and his mother was Luz Antonia Rivera. He committed to music from a young age. He was immensely interested in the works of Vico C and Brewley MC.

Before his full-time focus on music started, he dedicated much of his time to a local Protestant church of Bayamont in Puerto Rico. He, as an active member of the church, was often responsible for delivering sermons.

Career

Don Omar’s career started with a show in a discothèque in collaboration with Eliel Lind Osorio. His first few works were collaborations with famous music producers and DJs such as Luny Tunes, Noriega, and DJ Eric.

It was from one of his collaborations with Hector and Tito that he made a connection with the Puerto Rican singer and Hector assisted Omar with his first album. 

So far, he has released seven solo studio albums. His first solo album, The Last Don, was released in 2003 and it performed very well in the industry, generating about one million copies in a sale. In addition, it earned various awards and nominations for Don Omar, including a 2005 Latin Grammy Awards nomination.

Don Omar had issues with the law on September 18, 2007, when he was detained in Bolivia for a dispute with a concert promoter. The charges brought by the concert promoter’s company against Don Omar and his team was that they had canceled an upcoming concert in La Paz, Bolivia in 2007.

The promotion company claimed that Don Omar fraudulently swindled about $70,000 from the company by canceling the concert. Don Omar, on the other hand, claimed that he had to cancel the concert since he did not receive the air tickets for traveling to the show on time.

However, although the issue was brought to a local court, no one was held guilty in this case because the two parties decided to make a settlement among themselves.
