Ed O’ Neill’s full name is Edward O’ Neill, who was born on 12 April of the year 1946 in the Youngstown city of Ohio. His mother, Ruth Ann, was a social worker and a homemaker, and his father, Edward Philip O’ Neill, was a worker in a steel mill and a truck driver.

He attended Ursuline High School and graduated from there. He got a football scholarship from Ohio State University.

But right after his sophomore year in that college, he transferred to Youngstown State University. In Youngstown State University, he was the defensive lineman of the University’s football team.

In 1969, he got the chance to be the undrafted free agent of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team, but he failed to make it through training camp. Later, returning to Youngstown State University, he joined the school theatre program.

After graduating, he worked as a substitute for social studies at Ursuline High School for a short period. In 1977, moving to New York City, he studied Circle in the Square Theatre School. In the meantime, he worked as a busboy in New York City.

Neill’s first stage performance was in the Broadway Play “Knockout.” He was portraying the character of a boxer where Neill caught director William Friedkin’s attention, and he assigned him to play a small role in the film ‘Cruising’ in 1980.

This small role in this film led him to commercials and small roles in series and short films for Television. He continued the stage production in the meantime.

In 1987, when he got the opportunity to perform AI Bundy in the sitcom “Married… with Children,” it was his big break. But he continued playing small roles.
