Eddie’s full name was Edward Lodewijk Van Halen. He was born on January 26, 1955, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Eddie’s father Jan van Halen was a Dutch clarinetist, saxophonist, and pianist and his mother Eugenia Van Halen belonged to Rangkasbitung located on the island of Java in Indonesia.
Alex and Eddie were two brothers, Eddie being the younger one. The family shifted from the Netherlands to the United States in the early 1960s and settled in Pasadena, California. The brothers were interested in music from a very young age and learned to play classical piano at a very young age of six.
Alex and Eddie took piano lessons from an elderly piano teacher Stasys “Stanley” Kalvaitis who lived in San Pedro. Being passionate about music, Halen Brothers formed their first band with other three boys and named it The Broken Combs.
