Concert Mayhem

Woodstock ’99

Although Limp Bizkit played in front of 200,000 people in Woodstock ’99 with high anticipation of energy from the crowd, they didn’t know what the audience is capable of.

During their performance on the song Break Stuff, people turned violent and tore several items from the stage, including plywood from the walls.

Several sexual assaults were reported after the concert as well. In his defense, Durst stated that they cannot see the assaults and destruction the audience are causing, as all they could see was a pool of people.

2001 Australian Tour

On a tour to Australia in 2001, when they were performing at the Big Day Out festival in Sydney, fans rushed the stage in the mosh pit, and a teenager died of asphyxiation.

The Coroner’s Court of New South Wales criticized the crowd control measures, and also Durst for “alarming and inflammatory” comments during the rescue effort.

On the same tour, Fred threw water over the head of security personnel. During the Big Day Out Crush, he was accused of tormenting the securities.

Summer Sanitarium Tour

In 2003, when Durst was performing in Chicago as part of the Summer Sanitarium Tour, the crowd chanted f**k Fred Durst.

Although Fred tried to stay and perform, he threw the microphone and left the stage before the show’s over. Chicago lawyer Michael Young in a class-action suit sued Fred for breaching the contract by not completing the show.

Few days before the show, a local radio jockey Mancow Muller mocked Durst and suggested that listeners who were attending the concert should heckle the singer and throw debris. This caused the audience to chant against Fred Durst.
