Maynard James Keenan was born on 17th April, 1964 in the city of Ravenna, Ohio. He was born in a Southern Baptist family.

His mother was Judith Marie, and his father Michael Loren Keenan. He has mixed Irish and Italian lineage.

Keenan’s parents separated in 1968, which led him to live a disruptive childhood. He didn’t get to meet his father even in 12 years since he moved to Scottville.

Keenan’s passion for music and his ways to express his creativity was blocked in the new household. His mother suffered from a hemorrhage resulting in paralysis. He soon moved in with his father in Scottville.

Keenan graduated from “Maso County Central High School” in 1982. Keenan wrestled and sang in the “Glee Club” side by side studies.

He developed a friendship with renowned musicians like Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Zack de la Rocha. “Tool” was formed in 1990 when Keenan moved to Los Angeles and he met Adam Jones.

“Tool” had the lineup, including Keenan as the lead, guitarist Jones, Danny Carey as the drummer, and bassist Justin Chancellor.

Tool signed to the record “Zoo Entertainment” in 1991, which soon led to them releasing an EP “Opiate” and touring. “Tool’s” debut album was released in 1993 named “Undertow” and reached a milestone like “Gold” and “Platinum” within a year timespan.

The band received a Grammy after the release of their second album “Ænima” in 1998. Keenan has been working on other side hustles like “The Perfect Circle” and “Puscifer” besides “Tool.”
