Early Life

Ryan Higa, popularly known as Nigahiga, was born on June 6th, 1990 in Hawaii, United States. He was born to Wendell Higa and Luci Higa and has an elder brother named Kyle. He belongs to Okinawan descent. 

Higa graduated in 2008 from Waiakea High School. He created his YouTube channel while he was a student in 2006.

his childhood, Higa took part in judo and wrestling competitions and has won himself a black belt.

In 2006 while they were in high school, Nigahiga started making lip-syncing videos on YouTube with his friend Sean Fujiyoshi. Gradually they started creating comedy content side by side making songs. They introduced guests in their videos too such as Ryan Villaruel, Tim Enos, Kyle Chun, and Tarynn Nago. 

In 2009, Higa started losing his lip-syncing videos due to copyright issues, for which he decided to compose his music. In the same year, he released a short film named “Nija Melk” which was about ninjas.

The story was about a ninja master and his student, and the characters were played by his friends Bryson Murata, Tim Enos, and Tarynn Nago. 

Higa also made a film of 35 minutes with an American film-making group named “Wong Fu Productions”.

The name of the film was “Agents of Secret Stuff” and Higa uploaded this on his channel in 2010. Aki Aleong, an American character actor made a guest appearance on this film including other well-known You Tubers as well.

The film featured Anthony and Ian from the comedy channel Smosh, comedian KassemG and Hiimrawn. 

As Higa started college and shifted to Las Vegas, he started making solo videos on his channel.

He made content by collaborating with other YouTubers. In 2012, Higa developed the Ryan Higa Production Company with Sean Fujiyoshi.

They work together and make comedy content for his channel. By 2015, his production company was moved to a studio in Nevada. 

Higa, along with his friends and other fellows You Tubers came up with an American K-pop parody group named “Boys Generally Asian”.

The group has released a single called “Dong Saya Dae” in 2016. Higa came up with his channel name using the Japanese word Niga meaning rant and his surname Higa.

By 2011, he had created another channel with the name HigaTV. This channel mainly contains videos like behind the scenes and his day-to-day blogs.
