Early Life
Plies was born on 1st July 1976 in Front Myers, Florida. He was named originally Algernod Lanier Washington. Not much information about his parents is known to the public.
But he grew in the area of Fort Myers and attended “Fort Myers Senior High School.” He played football and often got to be the receiver and defensive back in his high school’s football team.
Plies was crowned as the “Homecoming King” and “Best Dressed Student” of his class. He was an extremely good student and even got to be a valedictorian of his high school class.
He initially attended the “Miami University” with the name Nod Washington and played as a wide receiver for the football team for 2 years.
He eventually transferred into the “University of Central Florida” but dropped out. Plies, as a freshman in 1995 had 9 receptions for 69 yards, and in his sophomore year 25 receptions for 262 yards with 2 touchdowns.
He managed to have 5 receptions for 43 yards in the next season. As Plies dropped out of college, he concentrated more on his career. In the late 1990s, he and his stepbrother Ronnell Lawrence Lavatte set up an independent record label named “Big Gates Records.”
It initially started as a way to help others in their music career but it also turned out to be a way for Plies to realize his talent.
He refused to rap but “Big Gates” kept one of his demonstrations and promoted it which eventually led to Plies big break in the future.

Plies demonstration of “Tell Dem Krackers Dat” was promoted by “Big Gates Record” as a single and Plies traveled many times to Miami for it.
It eventually led him to get an offer from “Slip n Slide Records” to sign a deal. He was released several mixtapes initially.
In 2007, his debut album “The Real Testament” was released. It was well received by the music critics. The debut single “Shawty” featuring T-Pain topped on the “Billboard Hot Rap Chart” and got the 9th position on the “Hot 100.”
“Hypnotized,” the second single featuring Akon also peaked at “Rap Chart” with number 3 position and 14 on the “Hot 100.”
The debut album was certified as “Gold” by the “Recording Industry Association of America” (RIAA) and so did his both singles “Shawty” and “Hypnotized.”
Plies started getting more recognition and made a guest performance for artists like DJ Khalid on “I’m So Hood” beside T-Pain, Trick Daddy, and Rick Ross.
In 2008, 10 months after releasing the debut album Plies’s second album “Definition of Real” got released. The album sold over 2 hundred thousand copies in the first week and debuted at number 2 for “Billboard 200.”
His lead single “Bust It Baby Pt. 2” featuring Ne-Yo peaked at number 2 spot on both “Hot Rap Tracks” and “Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks” chart. This album featured more artists like Jamie Foxx and The-Dream on the single “Please Excuse My Hands.”
Plies released the third album “Da REAList” just after 6 months of the second album. It was topping on charts too. His fourth album “Goon Affiliated” got out in 2010 and it made even more success than the last albums.
Since 2011, he has been releasing more mixtapes like “I Fuck With The DJ,” “Aristotle,” “On Trial,” and more.
