His intention was later to pursue a law degree after finishing his undergraduate degree

During his university life, he uploaded videos on YouTube. These videos were “vlogs,” which he published on a YouTube channel which was later deleted. His premature videos were supported by almost 30 people.

Johnson began uploading videos on his Ray William Johnson channel in April 2009. In 2011, the YouTube channel had become the first to reach the 5 million subscriber base.  The channel also had a sum of almost 2 billion views.

Ray initially created his videos from his flat in New York City but in 2011 he agreed to sign a contract with Maker Studios to start producing videos on set in Culver City, California.

While at Maker Studios, Johnson developed a Spanish-language series called Igual a Tres.

Johnson revealed that he would end hosting Equals Three in the immediate future to concentrate on other initiatives in December 2013.

He was able to host certain celebrities such as Sarah Silverman, John Cho, Jason Biggs, and Robin Williams.

His last show as host, dubbed Thank You for Everything was released on March 12, 2014. At the time of Johnson’s retirement, the platform had more than 10 million subscribers and a total of 2.6 billion viewers.

Johnson launched a new co-creative YouTube channel called Your Favorite Martian which featured animated cartoon music videos in January 2011.

The songs were executed by a virtual band of fictitious animated characters, Ray wrote lyrics and beats, and sometimes joined forces with other songwriters to create the pieces of music.

This channel was YouTube’s one of the largest music channels. Boom Headshot was its last song that was released on 2012.

Outside of his YouTube success, Johnson was part of an independent film project named Who’s Driving Doug in May 2017. Johnson played the part of the new operator for the impaired socialite of Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte.

The screenplay was composed by Michael Carnick and also by Paloma Kwiatkowski. Johnson also contributed to Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.

He did a voice performance of Boba Fett and a full audio representation of Goku in Marker Studio’sEpic Rap Battles of History.

Though most of his videos are catered to provide his audiences with humor and laughter, several people have reported his content as offensive and demeaning.

In many cases, Ray was found creating reaction videos on certain issues that in his word ‘were trendy at the time.’ Thus, he was accused by other Youtubers as disrespectful and hurtful.

The Youtuber was also seen in a legal lawsuit against Jukin Media, who had suggested that the former had stolen their viral video.  The tricky case was later won by Johnson, who was representing Equals Three.

The verdict was as such the 3 episodes of Equal 3 only tried to provide commentary on Jukin’s videos (another reaction video of sorts) and were the rules of YouTube indicated the content therefore protected under fair use.
