Rich Piana was born on September 26, 1970. He is half-Armenian and half-Italian through his mother and father, respectively. From a very young age, Piana was attracted to bodybuilding.
Since his mother was a body builder, Piana would often accompany her to the gym and watch her practice for competitions. He was also influenced by an old school body builder, Bill Cambra.
Piana began weightlifting at the age of 11. He began competing in bodybuilding contests when he reached 15. He won several titles, including IFBB Mr. Teen California, by the time he reached 18.

Death
Jansen was cutting his hair when Piana collapsed on the floor. Soon, she informed the officials and continued to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the paramedics arrived. He died on August 25, 2017.
