Early Life
Ulrich Alexander Fox was born on 24th July, 1969. His hometown is in Toronto, Ontario. Rick’s parents are Dianne Gerace and Ulrich Fox. Rick came from a family with a history in sports other than basketball.
His mother was a high jumper of the Olympics. She is of Italian and Scottish descent but is a Canadian.
Adding onto his existing rich family background, Rick’s father who is a Bahamian was the first to manufacture and sell ice in the Bahamas. He has a sister, Jeanene Fox, who is a famous interior designer and television personality.
Rick grew up in Nassau. His family moved to the Bahamas when he was young. He proceeded to attend school in Nassau.
Rick continued to play basketball in high school at Indiana. He attended the University of North Carolina and led his team in the NCAA Final Four in 1991.
Career
Fox’s NBA career started in 1991. On the first round of the 1991 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics selected Rick as 24th pick. Since Larry Bird in 1979, Rick is the first starter on opening night who was a rookie.
He averaged 8 points in each game and made his way through the 1992 NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Since then till his last game for the Boston Celtics in 1997, he has achieved double scoring.
In 1997, after the Celtics let go of Fox, he started playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Once again, he was put into the starting position in the slot and averaged double figures in every game.
He played all 82 games in the 1997-98 season. However, in 2002-03 his performance began to get hampered due to an ankle injury. Therefore, he played 75 out of 76 games.
After the 2003-04 season, he was traded back to play for the Celtics. Instead of going back, Fox decided to retire from playing in the NBA.
He played internationally for Canada twice, in the 1990 and 1994 FIBA World Championships.
Fox earned a Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television, and Motion pictures. Rick already had an acting career going even when he was playing basketball professionally.
