Early Life

Ryan Allen Sheckler was born on 30^th December, 1989. San Clemente, California is his hometown. His parents are Gretchen and Randy Sheckler. They have two other sons, Kane and Shane.

Ryan first started skateboarding at just eighteen months when he showed interest in his father’s skateboard.

Getting encouragement and support from his father, Ryan did his first Kickflip at the age of six years old, his father proudly states.

Afterward, he would spend countless hours practicing his sport at the custom Skatepark in his backyard built by this father.

In 2012, at an interview for Network A, an internet based platform, Sheckler said that the San Clemente Park is where he first began skateboarding and that he was even a part of the park’s opening.

At the age of just 7, he received this first sponsorship from the Etnies Shoe Company and shortly after from Oakley Inc.

Career

Much of who Sheckler is due to his skateboarding career. After his sponsorship from Etnies and Oakley, he was officially requested for the advertisement of Etnies shoes, by 1998.

He became a foundational member of the skateboard company ‘Almost’ alongside Greg Lutzka in 2003 which was pioneered by two professional skateboarders and businessmen Daewon Song and Rodney Mullen.

Sheckler featured in the inaugural Almost video titled ‘Almost: Round Three’ with Cooper Wilt, Chris Haslam, Greg Lutzka, Rodney Mullen, and Daewon Song.

It is in the same year that Sheckler took part in the X games summer and became the youngest gold medalist.
