Sam Smith was born in London on the 19^th of May, 1992. Their parents are Kate Cassidy and Frederick Smith.

As a youth, they were a part of various jazz bands and during their time at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford studied music under jazz pianist Joanna Eden.

They were also a part of the Bishops Stortford Musical Society, the Cantate Choir, and are an alumnus of the British Youth Music Theatre.
