Steven Vincent Buscemi was born on December 13, 1957, to John and Dorothy Buscemi in Brooklyn, New York. He is an English-Dutch-Italian descendant who was brought up as a staunch Roman Catholic.

His family, which consisted of his parents, three other brothers, and him, moved to Nassau County, New York when he was a child.

He went to Valley Stream Central High School where he was a valuable asset to the drama club and wrestling team. In 1975, Steve Buscemi graduated. 

 Buscemi momentarily went to Nassau Community prior to shifting to Manhattan, New York City to learn at the Lee Strasberg Institute. He took a test on civil service in 1976 to join the special services.

Upon becoming a firefighter in New York City, Buscemi served as a member of FDNY’s Engine CO. 55 for a tenure of long 4 years in Little Italy.
