His family consists of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Howard and a brother named Jeffrey. Howard studied at Emmaus High School in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1989.
In college, he double-majored in Finance and Engineering from The College of William & Mary, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1993.
