Tony Danza was born on 21st April 1951 to Matty Anthony Danza and Anne Cammisa. His father was a waste collector while his mother was a bookkeeper. He was raised in a working-class Italian household with his younger brother.

His family was situated in East New York. They moved to Long Island when Danza was fourteen. He claimed to be a terrible student but graduated from the school in 1968.
