Virgil Abloh was born in Rockford, Illinois, on September 30, 1980. He was born to a Ghanaian family and his father ran a paint company while his mother was a seamstress.

Being raised in Rockford, he attended the Boylan Catholic High School and graduated from it in 1998.

He took a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002.

Moreover, in 2006, he completed his Masters in Architecture from Illinois Institute of technology.

While pursuing his Masters degree, an under-construction building in his campus, designed by architect Rem Koolhaas had piqued his interest in fashion and design. That’s when he started designing t-shirts and writing fashion blogs.
